July Calligraphy Prompts - Shake up your lettering!

When you are creating larger pieces of calligraphy, you may want to shake up the style or incorporate lettering into your piece. Therefore, this month we won't be focusing on words but how the words look.


Use "My name is [ ]", "Lettering style practice" or a phrase of your choice.


  1. Bubble writing

  2. Pointy

  3. Leopard print

  4. 3D

  5. Scruffy

  6. Polka dots

  7. 2 contasting colours

  8. Black and white

  9. Add shadows

  10. Lots of flourishes

  11. Outline all of your letters

  12. Serif font

  13. Mix up where your capital letters are

  14. Write your word vertically

  15. Add faces to your letters

  16. Add a background to your letters

  17. Make your letters extra tall

  18. A font based on your favourite film or album

  19. Make each letter different

  20. Add a reflection to your letters

  21. Draw a circle and make your letters fit

  22. Create your letters in a swirl

  23. Add flowers to your letters

  24. Freestyle i.e. the style that comes naturally to you

  25. Calligraphy in your least favourite colour

  26. All black and then a pop of colour for the word you want to stand out

  27. Replace at least one of your letters with a doodle

  28. Lettering that incorporates your favourite holiday (xmas, etc)

  29. Make your letters look shiny

  30. Incorporate your favourite animal into your letters somehow

  31. Create letters using your favourite parts of this month's challenge
