Here are what some of my previous students have to say about my calligraphy classes
Prabhjeet
"I attended calligraphy workshop hosted by Gemma. Gemma is a very skilled, calm and patient person. I loved attending her workshop and would highly recommend her to everyone I know who wants to explore in this art. I wanted to learn this art from a long time. Thank you so much for your time Gemma for teaching me how to do it."
Abby
"Really enjoyed the workshop Calligraphy Gems recently held, the materials were sent through in plenty of time and the class was great. I am new to calligraphy & Gemma was thorough at explaining different techniques. Would fully recommend to anyone looking to learn the basics of calligraphy. Thank you Gemma!"
Daniella
"I recently took a Beginner's calligraphy class with Gemma after years of wanting to learn and I would highly recommend. In such a short space of time I've gone from not even knowing how to use a brush pen to making a pretty decent card for my first time! Gemma has also checked in on several occasions since and been more than happy to answer any questions. I would highly recommend taking a class with Gemma."
Nic
"Such a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Gemma is so welcoming and her hints and tips really helped in this introductory workshop. Whilst online tutorials are great, this adds so much more and having Gemma to suggest slight adjustments to posture etc help no end. Great location too"
Corinne
"I attended the 2 hour calligraphy for beginners workshop with my mum. It was brilliant. Lovely atmosphere, learnt a lot and walked away with lots of resources to practise at home. Highly recommend! Thank you :)"
Victoria
"Lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon, at Gemma's workshop learning modern calligraphy with my 13-year old daughter. Gemma's skill and gentle encouragement has really inspired us - we came straight home and have been practising for the rest of the evening! Nice group, tea and cake, and a new hobby for us both - thank you!"
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer private calligraphy classes?
Yes I do! I offer private calligraphy class to both corporate clients as unique team building events, and to groups looking to celebrate special occasions such as milestone birthdays, hen parties and weddings. If you're interested in a private calligraphy class, contact me.
Where are the online calligraphy classes taking place?
My workshops are hosted on Zoom. You will see me and my hands as I work through the content with you. I will see you throughout the session as you will be on camera and you can ask questions throughout the session. You can also show me your work which can be helpful.
But what if I have terrible handwriting?
I promise you don't need tidy handwriting to be able to create beautiful calligraphy. The method of learning is different, so is the purpose behind them. You can learn more about the differences between cursive and calligraphy in my blog.
I'm left handed, will this be an issue?
I know lots of left-handed calligraphers and I've taught numerous left-handed students at my workshops. Being left-handed won't impact your ability to learn calligraphy.
Do I have to be artistic to learn calligraphy?
Nope! Calligraphy is a wonderful art skill that is accessible even if you don't consider yourself to be artistic.
Is there a minimum age requirement?
Although workshops are predominantly attended by adults, younger individuals are welcome. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
What do I need to bring?
Most of my beginners calligraphy classes include a calligraphy workbook, a calligraphy pen (brush pen), and blank greeting cards. Please review the event description to learn more about what is supplied for that specific workshop.
